The initiative begins by building relationships with the community. Together, artists and community partners begin to identify art installation locations and better understand the needs of the community through the perspective of its stakeholders.
Call for Artists and Community Partners
Artists across Singapore and organisations from Macpherson are invited to apply to join the initiative.
Vision Workshop
Community partners and artists come together to share their thoughts on art in the neighbourhood, the needs of the beneficiaries, and potential ideas for co-creation of the artwork.
Outreach
Awareness about the initiative and its events are spread through pop-ups and social media promotion.
Artists discover and map out collective knowledge about MacPherson, its people and its available resources. Through meeting with the community partner and residents, artists better understand the needs, interests and assets of residents.
Site Observations
Artists visit the neighbourhood and site of the art installation in order to better understand the qualities of the environment.
Interviews
Artists get to know the specific community they are working with through visiting the community partner and finding out about the needs and desires of the residents.
The information and stories gathered in the first two phases are translated into an art installation. Residents and community partners join artists in the creation of the work while building ownership of the initiative.
Arts Critic
As the conceptualisation stage for the artwork is in progress, artists check in with residents to hear their feedback on ideas.
Co-Creation Workshops
Community members work alongside artists to design four art installations in MacPherson. Whether it’s painting, sculpting, or photo taking, the residents are invited to take part so that they can make the pieces their own.
Production by Artists
Artists bring their ideas to fruition through completing the construction of the artwork and incorporating the contributions from the community.
The 4 different co-created art works are finalised and celebrated through the launch of an Arts Trail. The artwork is displayed for the entire neighbourhood to view and enjoy.
Arts Trail
Arts Trail @ MacPherson showcases the co-created artworks from the initiative and neighbourhood stories from both artists and residents. The public is invited to contribute to the artwork itself as hidden gems of the area are explored.
Maintenance
After the artwork is completed, it takes a community effort to make sure the artwork is intact for the duration it is exhibited.
