Arts @ MacPherson 2021
Neighbourhood Art Exhibition
As part of the Arts @ MacPherson initiative this year, we would also like to highlight the hidden talents of the people who celebrates the vibrancy of the MacPherson neighbourhood.
We engaged with 3 unique local talents to give us a glimpse into their world view by showcasing their artworks.
This exhibition will be held from 11 September to 30 September
Wong Weng Yew
Wong Weng Yew is a conceptual photographer from Singapore and a resident at Macpherson Spring. His works have been exhibited internationally in Sydney, Michigan and Milan. He calls his work mimetic photography as each of his works come in a diptych. In both images taken below, the same subject is taken over the same period. This format offers competing depictions of the same underlying reality in a set of mimetic doubles.

Leong Kum Chee
Madam Leong Kum Chee and her eldest daughter, June, have been living in MacPherson for five and a half years. Madam Leong’s interest in colouring began when her eldest granddaughter, Jayme, bought her a set of drawings and colour pencils about two years ago.
Besides colouring, Madam Leong is talented in music and dance. She has been taking Cantonese opera lessons at the Tanjong Pagar Community Club for several years and performed as a male opera singer in a duet on a few occasions at the Kreta Ayer Theatre.
Ng Wee Liang
Having a keen interest in Singapore’s built heritage and multicultural society, Wee Liang enjoys taking photographs for documentation and education. Despite having a digital camera, he prefers using analogue cameras for photography – with one that dates back to 1930s.
